#INDONESIA: Pres. Being Blamed for Walk-Out That Allowed Passage of Law Stripping Voting Rights in Local Elections

Democratic Party officials say Pres. Yudhoyono didn't order the walk-out of the House session discussing a bill stripping voters of the right to vote for local and regional officials. The walk-out backfired when the controversial legislation passed without proposed amendments. Yudhoyono, who was travelling at the time, opposed the bill.

It will "arrange meetings between Ennahda representatives and stakeholders, and encourage support for free and fair elections in Tunisia" from its London offices, say State Dept. filings.

New anti-terrorism laws expected to pass in the Australian Senate as early as this week will give spy agency ASIO the power to monitor the entire internet, the government has confirmed. Green Senator Scott Ludlam urged senators to reconsider their vote, saying parliament was being "bullied" into making the decision.
