[world politics news]

New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has tested positive for COVID-19 and will work remotely while isolating, his office said Sunday, just two weeks before a general election in which his Labour party is struggling.

The positive test will temporarily sideline Hipkins in the campaign for the Oct. 14 election. Labour has been sliding in the opinion polls, with the center-right National party leading by 31.9% to 26.5% in a recent survey.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern slipped further in popularity and her Labour Party could face an uphill struggle to retain power next year, a new political poll shows.

Ardern’s rating as preferred prime minister fell to 30% from 33% in May, according to a 1News Kantar poll conducted in the first week of August. Her rating is the lowest since she became prime minister in 2017. The poll was published late Monday in Wellington.

#NEWZEALAND: PM Ardern Releases Plan To House The Homeless

[world politics news]

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is promising to fix New Zealand's housing crisis and has unveiled new details of her Government's state housing plan.

The country's home waiting list continues to balloon – nearly 22,500 people are now on the public housing waiting list.

Ardern became prime minister in August, 2017. This is not the first time she has tackled a big issue. In 2018 she introduced the Child Poverty Reduction Act. But critics say her government has failed to tackle child poverty effectively.

An annual report card released by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), in early September, compared the performances of 41 high-income countries on child welfare issues, from suicide rates to childhood obesity, education and environment. New Zealand is at the bottom third in 35th place.

New Zealand Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Jacinda Ardern has been rewarded by voters with a landslide win — delivering her power in her own right, and an absolute drubbing to the National Party.

Labour has almost 50% of the vote - the most any party has achieved under MMP and easily enough to govern without relying on another party, meaning it will get more than the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority.

Tenants have to give only 21 days' notice.

The Labour Party Government plans to remove the right of landlords to end a tenancy for no cause and to increase notice periods for some specified reasons.
