[world politics news]

Egypt's Higher Elections Committee announced an initial list of candidates for the parliamentary elections, rejecting 535 of the 5,955 candidates who applied to run. Over 60 were rejected for drug use. Health Ministry official Hassan Nagi said, "We were surprised that so many would-be candidates were heavy drug users," a contention several candidates deny.
