Henriette Reker, a independent mayoral candidate in the western German city of Cologne suffered serious stab wounds while campaigning for last Sunday's election, a race she won. Supported by the ruling Christian Democrats of Chancellor Angela Merkel, she was allegedly attacked by a 44-year-old man protesting Merkel's migration policy.
