#UK: Nigel Farage Will Launch Brexit Party As "Reform Party"

[world politics news]

Nigel Farage, the man who spearheaded the Brexit campaign, is set to relaunch the Brexit Party as the Reform Party, as more and more ordinary Britons begin to doubt Boris Johnson’s ability to maintain order and deliver a suitable Brexit deal.

The Reform Party, which Farage formally registered last December, will seek to abolish the House of Lords, change Britain’s voting system, and to ensure that Boris Johnson delivers a proper Brexit that’s approved by the people who voted for it.

#UK: Britain Goes To The Polls To Elect A Parliament; Will Determine Future Of Brexit

[world politics news]

Millions of Britons go to the polls today to elect a new parliament. At stake is the future of Brexit, the exit of the UK from the European Union, supported by the Conservative and Brexit parties and oppose by the Liberal Democrats and many in the Labour Party, who would call for a second referendum to put the question before voters a again.

The Conservatives lost their majority in the General Election on June 8, 2017 - and now Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be hoping to restore his party's dominance against Jeremy Corbyn's Labour. In the past two years, the Conservatives have been hampered by opposition parties in bringing Brexit to a conclusion, despite over 17 million people voting for it in 2016.

The Labour Party has trailed in most polls, with Leader Jeremy Corbyn facing low personal approval ratings. But the upstart Brexit Party could split the pro-Brexit vote and hand Labour some victories today.

[world politics news]

The traditional center-right and center-left blocs in the European Parliament have lost their combined majority amid an increase in support for liberals, the Greens and nationalists in the EU's parliamentary elections.

Pro-EU parties are still expected to be in a majority but the traditional blocs will need to seek new alliances.

The liberals and Greens had a good night, while nationalists were victorious in Italy, France and in the UK, where the new Brexit Party dominated.

#UK: Prime Minister Theresa May Resigns After EU Election Disaster

[world politics news]

The day after European elections in which her Conservative Party was likely was completely wiped out by voters, Prime Minister Theresa May resigned in a tearful speech outside of her official residence on Downing Street in London , insisting: "I've done my best."

The PM was forced to resign after she failed to deliver Brexit, a voter-approved exit from the European Union, and lost the support of her own MPs - but will continue in office as a lame duck until July. A leadership contest will take place in early June to replace her as both party leader and prime minister.

#UK: Pressure Mounts On PM May To Resign As Disastrous EU Election Looms

[world politics news]

Conservative Members of Parliament are said to be counting down the hours until Prime Minister Theresa May quits as she is said to have 'barricaded' herself in her official residence at 10 Downing Street.

Whether that is literally true is uncertain, but she is certainly isolated from many in her party at this point.

This state of affairs follows the surprise resignation today of Andrea Leadsom, the leader of the House of Commons, on the eve of the European elections that will likely see the party wiped out by the new Brexit Party.

All polls have shown an extremely high level of anger at Theresa May's conservatives over the party's failure to deliver an exit from the European Union as they promised in the last election.

#UK: Shock Polls Show Brexit Party Beating Labour And Conservatives In EU Election

[world politics news]

The Brexit Party is headed towards earning more votes than Labour and the Conservatives combined in the May 23 European Parliament elections, and could even earn more votes than the Conservatives in a General election, two extraordinary polls showed this weekend.

In an Opinium poll in the Observer, focused on this month's European elections, Nigel Farage's new party is predicted to take 34% of the vote. The same poll gave Labour 21% and put the Tories in a miserable fourth place with 11%.

But an even more extraordinary poll, commissioned by a Brexit Party donor and published in the Sunday Telegraph, said for the first time the Brexit Party would take more vote than the Conservative Party in a General Election.

The ComRes survey of voting intentions put Brexit on 21 per cent to the Conservatives' 20, which would see Farage's team win 49 seats, becoming the UK's second biggest party after Labour, with 137.

#UK: Shock Poll Shows Brexit Party In First Place For EU Parl. Elections

[world politics news]

After three years of failed attempts to get the UK out of the European Union, the newly launched Brexit Party is topping a recent poll with 27% of the vote, according to the UK polling firm YouGov.

Last week, in its first poll on next month's' EU Parliamentary elections, the firm saw Nigel Farage’s party storming into third place with 15% of the vote, before the Brexit Party had even formally launched.

Now, YouGov's second poll shows the Brexit Party leapfrogging into first place on 27% of the vote, ahead of both the Conservative and Labour Parties.

Farange says it is likely the party will contest British parliamentary elections in the future, as well, a prospect surely to send shockwaves through the Conservative Party establishment.

#UK: Labour Party Commits Itself To Seeking Second Brexit Referendum

[world politics news]

Labour Party Leader Jeremy Cornyn says his party will seek a second vote on Brexit, after weeks of wavering on the decision. The opposition party will file legislation to delay Brexit and prevent a "no-deal" break from The European Union from happening.

The decision was condemned by Brexit supporters, who called it a "betrayal" of the 2016 vote, in which over 17 million Britons voted to leave the single trading bloc.

Nigel Farage, leader of his newly created "Brexit Party," noted that millions of Labour supporters actually voted to Leave the EU. "Five million people who voted for Brexit then voted for Jeremy Corbyn the following year. For them, this is a disaster," he said. "A majority of Labour seats voted to Leave."
