The Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves has declared a national emergency following cyber attacks from Conti ransomware group on multiple government bodies.

Tech observers say Conti published most of the 672 GB dump that appears to contain data belonging to the Costa Rican government agencies.

The declaration was signed into law by Chaves on Sunday, May 8th, same day as the economist and former Minister of Finance effectively became the country's 49th and current president.

#HONDURAS: Winner Finally Declared In November 38 Election

The National Electoral Council of Honduras announced the victory of the Freedom and Refoundation Party (Free) in the parliamentary elections held on November 28. 

With the triumph, the political force of the elected president Xiomara Castro it managed to significantly increase its representation in Parliament but will not have a majority.

Xiomara Castro’s party got 50.2% of the votes. Second was the ruling candidate (National Party), Nasry Asfura with 36.3% of the votes.

The ruling party will have 50 deputies in the 128 member unicameral assembly, 20 more than in the current period.

#NICARAGUA: Ortega Regime Recognizes Communist China, Breaks Taiwan Ties

Nicaragua's government has switched its diplomatic allegiance to China, leaving Taiwan with just 14 governments around the world that formally recognize it as a country.

The announcement by the Central American country’s foreign ministry also recognized Beijing’s claim over Taiwan as a Chinese province, a dispute that is at the heart of escalating tensions in the region.

Cheng Wen-Tsan, mayor of the Twain city of TaoYuan, tweeted his regret for the action.

"We regret to see that Nicaragua chose to end diplomatic ties with Taiwan. However, the ties between the people of Nicaragua and Taiwan will not be affected. I’d also like to stress to China that coercive diplomacy will only drive the two sides of the Taiwan Strait further apart."

US Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted his reaction to the actions of Nicaragua's left-wing Daniel Ortega government:

"Of course a failing Marxist regime like Nicaragua severed ties with free and democratic Taiwan in favor of better relations with the Chinese Communist Party."

#ELSALVADOR: Bitcoin Approved As Legal Tender

El Salvador has become the first country in the world to officially classify Bitcoin as legal currency.

Congress approved President Nayib Bukele's proposal to embrace the cryptocurrency, with 62 out of 84 possible votes on Tuesday night.

The president said the government had made history, and that the move would make it easier for Salvadoreans living abroad to send money home.

In a simple three-page bill, which the president, Nayib Bukele, posted on Twitter in Spanish and English, explained that Bitcoin would be legal tender for all transactions, including paying taxes.
