#COSTARICA: President Declares State Of Emergency After Ransomeware Attack Paralyzes Gov't

The Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves has declared a national emergency following cyber attacks from Conti ransomware group on multiple government bodies.

Tech observers say Conti published most of the 672 GB dump that appears to contain data belonging to the Costa Rican government agencies.

The declaration was signed into law by Chaves on Sunday, May 8th, same day as the economist and former Minister of Finance effectively became the country's 49th and current president.

#COSTARICA: Supreme Court Overturns Gay Marriage Ban

Costa Rica's Supreme Court has ruled that the country's same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional and discriminatory.

The court ruling gives the country's legislators a time limit of 18 months to change the current law.

The president welcomed the ruling, saying he wants to guarantee "no person will face discrimination for their sexual orientation".

However many lawmakers are evangelicals who strongly oppose gay marriage.
