#VENEZUELA: Economic Reforms Include Plan To Knock Five Zeros From Currency

The beleaguered regime of Nicolas Maduro is launching a "new" currency Monday, in a desperate attempt to stem inflation and tackle its economic crisis. The new 'sovereign bolivar' will enter circulation on Monday, which has been declared a national holiday so that the population can get used to the new banknotes. Inflation in Venezuela is forecast by to hit a million per cent this year, with a cup of coffee now costing around two million bolivars.

#VENEZUELA: Maduro Dictatorship Hold Election For New Assembly Widely Condemned As A "Sham"

There was a light turnout for the selection of a 545-members of the National Constituent Assembly, whose candidates were hand-picked by the Socialist regime of Nicolas Maduro. The Assembly will replace the current opposition-controlled parliament, and it is feared it will quickly write a new constitution giving Maduro's party absolute power. These elections take place after more than three months of protests that have left more than 120 deaths all over the country. The US and some South American nations have condemned the one-sided election as a "sham."

#VENEZUELA: War of Words Heats Up Between Opposition-Run Nat'l Assembly And Maduro Regime

The president of the nation's parliament has called Pres. Maduro "a fool" heading an "outlaw" regime, and Maduro's team has struck back, saying he was acting like a "rude troublemaker." The National Assembly, run by the opposition to the Leftist Maduro regime since last December, is becoming bolder in it's plan to oust him in the next six months.

Venezuela's opposition parties have vowed to find a way to get rid of Leftist President Nicolas Maduro within six months, after taking control of the National Assembly for the first time since 1999, the year the late socialist leader Hugo Chavez came to power. At its first regular session, the opposition-controlled assembly swore in three anti-government lawmakers, defying Maduro who had secured a court injunction to suspend them, in an attempt to take away the opposition's majority.

Maduro has set up an extra-constitutional "Parallel" parliament called the "People's Assembly" after a massive landslide victory last month for the opposition in which the government lost control of the National Assembly. Maduro faces a "rapidly unraveling state" reports the UK Daily Telegraph, as drug charges against Maduro's family and government mount.

#VENEZUELA: Anti-Chavezist Oppo. Wins Back The Legislature; Can Now Challenge Left

The opposition have soundly defeated the ruling Socialists to win the legislature for the first time in 16 years and gain a long-sought platform to challenge President Nicolas Maduro's rule of the OPEC nation. The opposition Democratic Unity coalition won 99 seats to the Socialists' 46 in the 167-national National Assembly, the election board said, with some districts still to be counted.

The Democratic Action party says Luis Manuel Diaz was killed by attackers in a car as he was holding a public meeting in central Guarico state. Opposition leaders blamed militias supporting the governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela. The party of President Nicolas Maduro has so far made no public comment.

#VENEZUELA: Polling Shows Opposition Leading In Polls For Dec. Parliamentary Election

A survey by a Venezuelan pollster ahead of the December 6 parliamentary elections shows a 50.7% lead for the opposition coalition Table of Democratic Unity and 28% for the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela. Venezuelans will choose 167 lawmakers in December.

Pres. Nicolás Maduro has denounced Spain’s controversial Citizen Security Law, saying it violates human rights and resembles a dictatorship. Maduro himself has faced criticism for his own security forces' violence against protesters and opponents. He has jailed his two main opposition leaders. Spanish-Venezuelan diplomatic relations have deteriorated in recent months.

Opposition Leader Leopoldo López remains jailed by the Socialist regime, and ended a month-long hunger strike June 23 after elections were announced.
