The Diet has approved a boost in benefits for second and later children in low-income households headed by single parents by up to double the current levels. Allowances for second children will be increased to a maximum of ¥10,000 per month from the current ¥5,000. The maximum benefits for third and later children will rise to ¥6,000 from ¥3,000.
