Former Democratic Party of Japan leader Seiji Maehara is urging the current party leader to disband the DPJ and, along with members of the Japan Innovation Party, form a stronger opposition party ahead of next summer's upper house election. The request is likely to trigger a confrontation with DPJ President Katsuya Okada, who is reluctant to dissolve the main opposition party.
