#ZIMBABWE: Violence Erupts As Opposition Claims Monday's National Election Was "Rigged" In Favor Of Ruling Party

Opposition supporters burnt tires in Zimbabwe's capital, Harare today, blocking some streets and engaging in running battles with police who fired water cannon to disperse protesters contesting the results of Monday's election, in which the ruling party claimed victory. International election observers and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the Movement for Democratic Change both questioned the results, Chamisa calling the results "rigged" in favor of the Zanu-PF Party.

#ZIMBABWE: BREAKING: Mugabe Steps Down After Party Expels Him In Favor Of Ousted VP

Pres. Robert Mugabe has agreed to step down after 37 years. He's due to officially announce his departure on live television tonight. Mugabe reportedly broke down in tears and asked for his dead wife and son before meeting army chiefs Sunday after being ousted as leader of Zimbabwe's Zanu-PF party. The frail 93-year-old has until noon local time on Monday to resign as president or impeachment proceedings will start. He was replaced by the vice president he previously fired, Emmerson 'Crocodile' Mnangagwa, after all ten Zimbabwean provinces passed no-confidence motions against the dictator two days earlier.

#ZIMBABWE: Mass Demonstrations Call For Mugabe To Step Down

Thousands of Zimbabweans have taken to the streets to demand President Robert Mugabe's resignation, a spectacle that would have been unthinkable just one week ago. Saturday's rally in Harare, the capital, is backed by the army, which seized power on Wednesday. The mood at Zimbabwe Grounds, where speeches took place, was celebratory.

#ZIMBABWE: Parliament Meets For 2-Minute Session, Costs Over $15,000

The day after a wasted session, due to a lack of quorum, a Friday session of Zimbabwe's parliament was held on Dec. 23 but was adjourned after meeting for just two minutes. Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa ended the session without any motion being discussed, wishing MP's a Merry Christmas. The meeting reportedly cost over $15,000 in expenses for legislators. Seventy MPs who attended the brief session will be paid $75 each, along with $80 for hotel accommodation and fuel. They will meet again Jan. 24. On several occasions in 2016, Parliament had to incur extra expenses by meeting on Fridays due to lack of quorum.
