#INDIA: Resolution Would Change Nation's Name to Bharat

The Indian government appears to be considering a change in the nation’s official name, with “Bharat” – from Sanskrit – emerging as the alternative, even appearing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s G20 dinner invites for later this month. 

The resolution would change the name in the Indian constitution from “India, that is Bharat” to the “Republic of Bharat” and is likely to be introduced in the Indian parliament during the upcoming special session scheduled from September 18-22. 

The resolution needs to obtain a majority in both houses of the nation’s parliament before the government can amend the constitution.

#TAIWAN: Parliament Votes To Change China Airlines Name

Taiwan’s Parliament has voted in favor of rebranding national carrier China Airlines.

China Airlines has long been mistaken for an airline from mainland China because of its name. However, the airline, based in capital Taipei, is one of the two big carriers in self-governed Taiwan (Republic of China, ROC) and is not related to the three national airlines of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), namely Air China, China Eastern and China Southern.

The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has amplified calls to change the airline’s branding. As part of international relations, Taiwan recently sent medical aid abroad, using China Airlines aircraft for transportation. For those not familiar with the airline it was often unclear that the resources where actually coming from Taiwan, not China’s communist government in Beijing.

#MACEDONIA: Parliament Adopts "North Macedonia" National Name To End Dispute With Greece

Macedonia's parliament has approved a constitutional amendment to change the country's name to the Republic of North Macedonia.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev narrowly secured the two-thirds majority to make the change, aimed at ending a 27-year dispute with Greece, which has its own region called Macedonia. The change opens up possible NATO and you and United Nations memberships.
