A war of words over Australia's policy of deporting New Zealanders is souring the "special relationship" between the two nations. Australia has deported more than 1,000 New Zealand citizens in the past two years but the recent detention of a 17-year-old New Zealander in an adult detention facility prompted New Zealand Justice Minister Andrew Little to say such deportations had a “venal, political strain” to them. Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton responded by saying Australia did a lot of the "heavy lifting" in screening regional refugees, and that Little should "think more carefully before speaking."

#EGYPT: Former PM Shafiq "Deported" From UAE After Claiming He Was Prevented From Leaving; Returns To Egypt

UAE officials on Saturday took former Egyptian premier and presidential hopeful Ahmed Shafiq from his Abu Dhabi home to be deported back to Egypt. The move comes days after Shafiq, in exile in the UAE since 2012, announced his candidacy in next year's election and then said he was being prevented from leaving the country, angering his Emirati hosts.

#GERMANY: Alternative For Germany Party Calls For Banning Headscarves, Mass Deportations

Seeking its first representatives in the national legislature, the Bundestag, the Alternative For Germany Party has released a platform outlining "negative immigration" of 200,000 people and a ban on Muslim women wearing headscarves in public offices and schools. The "negative immigration" is a call for 200,000 less migrants leaving Germany in future years than arrive. Some accuse them of calling for "mass deportations," but the party hasn't said that, overtly.

#CANADA: Legislation Would Speed Up The Deportation of Foreign Criminals

The government will introduce legislation to speed up the process of removing foreign nationals who have committed serious crimes in Canada. The Removal of Serious Foreign Criminals Act would allow the mandatory transfer of foreign criminals back to their original countries without their consent – the only consent needed being from the home country.
