#UK: 16/17-Year-Old Voters In Wales Say They Need Better Voter Education

Children should be taught about politics in school to encourage them to vote, according to young people about to vote for the first time.

Those aged 16 and 17 were able to vote for the first time in the Welsh Senedd, the region's parliament, in May 2021, although turnout was low among this age group.

Despite being given the right to vote for the first time in last May's Welsh Parliamentary elections, figures showed 50% of that group registered to vote, with an estimated 60% of those actually voting.

This age group can also vote in Scottish parliament elections, but not for the UK parliament.

A previous report on Welsh votes at 16 said work engaging youngsters needed to start earlier.

#UK: Greens Join Coalition With Scottish National Party

The Scottish Greens will join the Scottish National Party in the Scottish Government after party members voted in favor of the “historic” power sharing deal.

The agreement will see the Scottish Green co-leaders Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater become government ministers – the first time any Green representative has held political office in a government in the UK.

First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon announced the plans for the parties to work together, having agreed a “transformative” policy program.

#UK: PM Boris Johnson And His Conservatives Win Huge Electoral Victory

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has promised to deliver Brexit and repay the trust of voters after he led the Conservatives to an historic general election win and yesterday's UK election.

The prime minister - who has met the Queen to ask to form a new government - has a House of Commons majority of 78, with one seat still to declare. His party has won 365 of 650 seats in parliament, with Labour holding only 203, a devastating loss of 59 seats.

He said he would work "flat out" and lead a "people's government," and said that he was grateful for all the Labour Party voters who crossed the aisle to vote for him and the Conservatives.

Jeremy Corbyn said he would not fight another election as Labour's Party Leader, amid recriminations over the party's defeat.

#UK: Poll Shows Massive Support For Conservatives In Northern Labour Strongholds

Pollster YouGov showed Labour support is collapsing in the north, with prominent industrial counties - some of which that have voted Labour for decades - Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside now jumping ship to Tory in a spectacular show of support for Boris Johnson, the Brexiteer Prime Minister.

The poll shows a drop in support for Jeremy Corbyn by an eye-watering 25 points compared to a drop in numbers for Mr Johnson by just three points. This puts the Tories on 33% in the stubborn region that voted overwhelmingly to leave.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson kicked off the UK's election today by saying "hundreds of billions" in pent up investment will be poured into the UK if British voters put their trust in the Conservative Party at the general election. Johnson voiced his frustration at parliament interfering with government plans to take the UK out of the European Union and said a Conservative Party majority after the December 12th election would put an end to the uncertainty. Speaking outside of his official residence at 10 Downing Street in London, the Prime Minister said: "This delay is now bad for the country and for the economy."

#UK: Poll Shows Johnson's Conservatives Ahead; Labour Being Dragged Down By Leader Corbyn

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is on course to win a Parliamentary majority in the December 12th national election which would give him the leeway he needs to get his Brexit deal through the House of Commons, a pollster has predicted.

Chris Hopkins, head of politics at ComRes, made his remarks after the publication of its latest Voting Intention poll, suggesting Johnson’s Conservative Party currently enjoys an eight point lead over Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour, a fact he attributed partly retaining the Leave vote better than Labour was managing to retain the Remain vote. Hopkins added negative perceptions of Corbyn himself appear to be hampering his party’s chances - with significantly more people saying they would like to have Christmas dinner with the prime minister.
