[world politics news]

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and three western premiers are calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to disassociate his government from comments made by his justice minister — who promised last week to "look at" a decades-old law that gives control over natural resources to the four western provinces.

"The federal government cannot unilaterally change the Constitution," the premiers of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba said in a joint statement Tuesday. "It should not even be considering stripping resource rights away from the three Prairie provinces.

Poilievre’s victory was a foregone conclusion for months, as most opinion polls ahead of the party convention on Saturday night showed his firebrand political rhetoric resonated with members – and gave him a comfortable lead over his closest rival, the more centrist Jean Charest.

#CANADA: Raucous First Conservative Party Leadership Debate

[world politics news]

The early days of the Conservative leadership campaign have featured top-tier candidates declaring each other unfit to lead, exclusionary and untruthful, so you had to wonder what would happen when they were asked to debate face-to-face. Insults? Badgering? Accusations?

Yes, yes and yes. Two things rang out through the 90-minute debate: posturing about truckers’ convoys and nasty exchanges.

Poilievre Calls out Media Coverage Of Trucker Convoy

[world politics news]

Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre blasted the “liberal media” for generalizing the Truckers For Freedom convoy as extremists, based on a small number of individuals who have attached themselves to the convoy instead of focusing on the broad issues opposed by the group.

Upwards of 500,000 truckers from across the country headed towards the national capital of Ottawa this past weekend to protest vaccine mandates and lockdowns.
