Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Bavarian allies, the Christian Social Union Party, are heading for their worst state election result in 60 years, losing their majority and gaining just 35.5 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results of the German region's elections. The Social Democratic Party also lost ground. Meanwhile, the Anti-Immigration Alternative For Germany Party won seats in the region's parliament for the first time, and even the Green Party made gains. The results could further weaken Merkel's coalition and its hold on its ruling majority in the European nation.
