Despite calls from international rights organizations and the European Union, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday promised not to end an ongoing state of emergency and called for the continuance of a campaign against the Gülen movement, which the government says was behind last year's coup attempt. He made his remarks during the third extraordinary congress of the ruling Justice and Development Party, where he was to be elected chairman.
