Honduras is set to go to the polls for its primary elections today, where current President Juan Orlando Hernández will controversially compete in a primary to become the candidate for his National Party to run for a second term as president, despite a constitutional provision forbidding presidents from serving a second term. Hernandez has convinced friendly members of the national elections board to agree that re-election is not really against the law. He argues that he has improved security issues and has lowered crime and violence since taking office in 2014.
