Moroccan-Dutch Khadija Arib of the Labour Party has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the first Muslim to hold that position. Arib, 55, emigrated to Holland when she was 15, and has served in parliament since 1998. She will preside over the House through next March, when elections are scheduled to be held. She is a former civil servant, educator and social worker.
