#AUSTRALIA: Victoria Parliament Creates First Nation Treaty Authority

The Australian state of Victoria will create the nation’s first independent authority to oversee First Nations Peoples’ Treaty negotiations, following a historic vote in the state parliament.

The Treaty Authority, which was introduced to Parliament in June by the minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Gabrielle Williams, is an agreement reached between the First Peoples’ Assembly and the Victorian government to establish a Treaty Authority that sits outside the existing state structures and does not answer to the government.

#UK: China In "Non-Compliance" With 1984 Hong Kong Treaty

Britain has declared that China is now in “a state of ongoing non-compliance” with the 1984 Sino-British joint declaration, which was supposed to guarantee Hong Kong a high degree of autonomy after the territory returned to Beijing’s control in 1997.

Dominic Raab, foreign secretary, said radical changes planned by Beijing to restrict participation in Hong Kong elections represented a further clear breach of the legally binding declaration.

His comments came ahead of the publication next week of a UK foreign and defence policy, which will see Boris Johnson’s government set out its strategy for dealing with China.

#IRAN: Parliament Rejects International Atomic Agency's Surprise Inspection Demands

Iran's parliament has prepared says it will stop the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol to the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty in Iran by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Parliament issued a statement in June strongly condemning an anti-Iran resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors, asking the government to stop implementing the Additional Protocol, which allows surprise inspections of nuclear sites.

The 35-member IAEA board passed the resolution on June 19, demanding access to two old places they claim nuclear work may have been done there.

#ESTONIA: New Coalition Hopes To Hammer Out Deal With Russia Over 2005 Border Treaty

Estonia's new ruling coalition, which now includes the rising populist Conservative People's Party, is seeking to hammer out a deal with neighboring Russia over borders that has been at a stand-still for over a decade.

Centre Party Prime Minister Jüri Ratas says that while there are differences of opinion in the current coalition between his party, the Conservative People's Party of Estonia (EKRE) and Isamaa (Pro Patria) on the question of the ratification of the border treaty with Russia, he is ready to move discussions on it forward if the Kremlin is. At the same time, he noted a need for pragmatism on the matter.

In March's election, the nationalist Conservative People's Party tripled its 2015 election result, forcing centrist Prime Minister Jüri Ratas to include them in a three-party coalition.

#EU: Populist Leaders Attack Merkel And Macron's French-German Treaty As A Surrender Of Sovereignty

Populist leaders in Germany and France are attacking the Treaty of Aachen signed yesterday as a surrender of sovereignty for both nations. The treaty, which will "twin" their two economies, militaries and even political systems was signed by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Both hailed the treaty as a reaffirmation of the European Union, but some see in it a reassertion of Germany and France as the major superpowers within the EU. According to Merkel, the agreement is a step towards a common European army, which sets off alarm bells for many. It also appears to be a virtual economic, social and political merger of the two nations.

The treaty represents nothing short of "high treason,"  said French Euroskeptic Member of European Parliament Bernard Monot. Macron’s true aim is to deliver "Alsace and Lothringen, Judas-like, to the foreign power," said Monot. The leader of France’s National Rally, Marine Le Pen, accused Macron of "an act that borders on treason." She said the treaty opens the door to forcing children in France's border regions to speak German at school.

Alternative for Germany Party leader Alexander Gauland said Merkel and Macron are trying to create "A Super-EU" within the European Union. "We populists insist that both take care of their own country first."

#GERMANY: Merkel, Macron, Plan "Merger" Of France & Germany; Joint Parliament, Common Laws, Merged Cities In New Treaty

Germany and France will sign a treaty on Jan 22 that will "twin" their two economies, militaries and even political systems closer than even the creators of the European Union ever envisioned. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel - despite being both damaged politically - have won approval from their cabinets for the treaty, which will create a joint, 100-member parliament, create a joint military force, a joint foreign policy, and envisions the creation of border town “Eurodistricts" in which French and German towns merge public transport networks and utilities.

The pact is seen as a prototype for the future of the European Union - borderless and without sovereign Nation-States. Alexander Gauland, leader of the populist, anti-mass migration Alternative for Germany Party, has condemned the union as a further "erosion of our national sovereignty."

Significantly, the treaty will be signed in the German city of Aachen, where the Emperor Charlemagne had his imperial residence, and where 31 rulers of the Holy Roman Empire were crowned over six centuries.

#JORDAN: King Abdullah II Responds To Public Pressure, Cancels Treaty Deal On Israeli-Leased Jordanian Lands

Jordan’s King Abdullah II says Jordan will not renew parts of the country’s 24-year-old peace agreement with Israel, amid public pressure to rebuke the Israeli government following the U.S. Embassy’s move to Jerusalem and ongoing violence in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, says he will try to work with Jordan to negotiate a renewal of the leased areas. The deal was reached in November 1994 between Abdullah’s father, King Hussein, and then-Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

Mass demonstrations have been held in Jordan to urge the king not to renew the leases, and his decision was reportedly met with celebrations. The Islamic Action Front Party, the largest opposition party, praised the King’s decision, saying it was a response to the public will.
