The Victorians party was launched a year ahead of the November 26 state election, and has since received sustained media coverage, helping it to attract about 5,000 members.

#AUSTRALIA: Victoria Parliament Creates First Nation Treaty Authority

The Australian state of Victoria will create the nation’s first independent authority to oversee First Nations Peoples’ Treaty negotiations, following a historic vote in the state parliament.

The Treaty Authority, which was introduced to Parliament in June by the minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Gabrielle Williams, is an agreement reached between the First Peoples’ Assembly and the Victorian government to establish a Treaty Authority that sits outside the existing state structures and does not answer to the government.

#AUSTRALIA: Law With $90K Fines For Protesting Condemned As "Attack On Democracy"

New powers will allow Victoria Premier Dan Andrews to impose a state of emergency any time he likes - and citizens could face $90,000 fines or two years in jail if they protest.

Under the legislation, opposition MPs fear the premier could use public health orders to target individuals on age, gender, sexual orientation, political belief, or activity, hand raised civil rights concerns about the abridgment of a citizen's right to protest.

Health minister Martin Foley insisted the new legislation was designed to be transparent, but it was savaged by the opposition as 'an attack on democracy.'

Australia, and Victoria state in particular, have recently endured some of the most stringent and brutal lockdowns in the world.

#AUSTRALIA: Victoria State Shuts Down Construction Industry Following Anti-Vax Riot

The Victorian government will forcibly shutdown all construction sites in metropolitan Melbourne and all other locked down local government areas for two weeks in response to violent protests against mandatory vaccinations.

Protesters rallied against the Victorian government's mandate requiring all construction workers to have at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose by September 23.

#AUSTRALIA: New Laws Passed By Victoria's State Parliament Gives Renters Right To Modify Apartments, Have Dogs Without Owner's Consent

Tenants in the Australian state of Victoria will be able to make minor modifications to their rental homes and own pets without landlord consent, after new laws were passed the state's parliament. The reforms, which also include the introduction of "basic standards," and limit rent rises to once a year, mark “the biggest reforms to renting in Victoria’s history”, according to the state government. The laws won't come into effect until July 1, 2020, allowing 18 months for "consultation with stakeholders."
