#CANADA: Parti Québécois Leader Vows New Seccession Vote For Quebec

Quebecers will have one “ultimate” chance to prevent their language and culture from being “erased,” by voting Yes in another independence referendum sometime before 2030, the leader of the Parti Québécois said Sunday.

If the PQ takes power in the 2026 general election, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon said, the party will move rapidly to organize another referendum — the third in Quebec history — because in his view the conditions for Quebec to become an independent country have never been clearer and Quebec’s status in Canada has never been bleaker.

He said the Province could be independent by 2030. The PQ was in power in 1980 when it held the first referendum on Quebec's place within Canada and whether Quebec should pursue a path toward sovereignty. 65% of Voters chose to stay within Canada.

#NIGERIA: Biafra Seperatist Movement Rejects Call For Violence In 2023 Election By Dissident

The Indigenous People of Biafra movement (IPOB) said that it has no plan to disrupt the 2023 general elections in the southeastern part of the country.

IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful made this known in a statement to journalists on Saturday in reaction to violent comments made by a breakaway member of IPOB, Simon Ekpa.

The Finland-based resident had threatened that the IPOB faction under his leadership would not allow any election to hold in the region.

But IPOB has distanced itself from Ekpa’s statement, saying violence was never part of its strategies as it continues to make its demand for secession. The IPOB movement was named a terrorist group in 2017 and banned by the Nigerian government.

#BOSNIA: Serb Parliament Pursues Path Towards Secession

The Bosnian Serb parliament in Bonia-Herzegovina has adopted a set of steps that would strengthen a secessionist bid to withdraw from state-level institutions despite warnings from the West.

Lawmakers on December 10 voted 49-3 on starting a procedure for Bosnia-Herzegovina's Serb-dominated entity to withdraw from the Bosnian Army, security services, tax system, and judiciary.

They also voted on a declaration that calls for the drafting of a new constitution for the entity, Republika Srpska, and states that "all laws imposed" by the international high representative for Bosnia are "unconstitutional."

#SPAIN: PM Sanchez Calls For Snap Election In April After Budget Fails In Parliament; Third Election In Four Years

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Friday called an early general election for April 28, the third in less than four years, after his draft budget was rejected in parliament. The Socialist Party leader took power just over eight months ago after he ousted his conservative rival in a dramatic parliamentary no-confidence vote, but it has been a turbulent term.

At the head of a fragile minority government, the 46-year-old had to rely on the support of unlikely bedfellows in parliament, including the far-left Podemos party, Basque nationalist lawmakers and crucially, 17 Catalan separatist MPs. They withdrew their backing of the government, and voted against the budget, to protest separatist leaders being put on trial for their role in a 2017 attempt to break Catalonia from Spain.

The campaign is set to begin April 13.

#DENMARK: Faroe Islands Considering Independence From Denmark

Located more than 680 miles northwest of Denmark's capital, Copenhagen, the Faroe Islands have since 1948 had their own white, blue and red flag with an offset cross, their own language originating from the Viking's Old Norse and institutions and culture. With its breathtakingly green and high mountains covered by fog and inhabited by more sheep than people, the island territory is now weighing the idea of pushing its autonomy to full independence. The Faroese parliament voted to secede from Denmark in 1946, but the vote was not recognized by the Danish government.

Catalonia's ousted leader Carles Puigdemont has agreed to the snap election Dec. 21st called by Spain's central government when it took control of the region to stop it breaking away, but he said the fight for independence would go on. Puigdemont, speaking at a news conference in Brussels on Tuesday, also said he was not seeking asylum in Belgium after Spain's state prosecutor recommended charges for rebellion and sedition be brought against him. He would return to Catalonia when given "guarantees" by the Spanish government, he said.
