#BOSNIAANDHERZEGOVINA: Serbs Set Up Separate Legal System

The parliament of Republika Srpska, one of the two entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina, voted on Feb. 10 to set up an independent judicial system outside of the Bosnia and Herzegovina legal system, with 45 votes in favor out of 63 votes cast in the 83-seat parliament.

Lawmakers on December 10 voted 49-3 to start a procedure for Bosnia-Herzegovina's Serb-dominated entity to withdraw from the Bosnian Army, security services, tax system, and judiciary.

#BOSNIA: Serb Parliament Pursues Path Towards Secession

The Bosnian Serb parliament in Bonia-Herzegovina has adopted a set of steps that would strengthen a secessionist bid to withdraw from state-level institutions despite warnings from the West.

Lawmakers on December 10 voted 49-3 on starting a procedure for Bosnia-Herzegovina's Serb-dominated entity to withdraw from the Bosnian Army, security services, tax system, and judiciary.

They also voted on a declaration that calls for the drafting of a new constitution for the entity, Republika Srpska, and states that "all laws imposed" by the international high representative for Bosnia are "unconstitutional."

#BOSNIA: Security Minister Calls For Deportation Of Migrants Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Bosnia’s security minister on Thursday proposed the deportation of migrants from the Balkan country, alleging that they pose a potential security threat and a severe economic burden amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fahrudin Radoncic also said migrants who could not provide passports or other identification documents should be imprisoned rather than accommodated in migrant camps in Bosnia.

#BOSNIA: Regional Serb Parliament Votes Against Selling Iron Ore Mine To Israeli Company

The Bosnian Serb parliament has voted against the sale of a government stake in an iron ore mine to the Israeli Investment Group after ArcelorMittal warned it would take legal action if it went ahead. The government plan to sell the Ljubija mine to little-known IIG, which has no mining record, instead of to the world's largest steel producer has polarized Bosnian Serb politicians and triggered protests by miners fearing job losses.

#BOSNIA: Serb, Bosnian Parties Put Aside Differences, Clear Way For EU Membership Deal, IMF Loans

Bosnia’s rival leaders have agreed on the key conditions set by the European Union for accepting the country’s membership application and cleared the way for winning a much needed IMF loan deal, which was delayed three weeks ago due to differences between Serb and Bosnian leaders in this ethnically divided nation. They have now agreed to a single transportation and infrastructure policy for the nation, opening up the possibility of a 550 million Euro loan from the International Monetary Fund.
