#QATAR: Amir Appoints Two Women To Legislature

Two women have been appointed to Qatar's legislative assembly, two weeks after an election selected 30 members, all men.

Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, appointed the remaining 15 Shura Council members, completing the country’s legislative body.

The amir also issued a decree inviting the Shura Council to hold its first ordinary session on 26 October.

According to the list released by the Qatar News Agency, the new Shura Council will include two women.

The decision was made almost two weeks after eligible citizens voted in 30 members of the Shura Council in the country’s first-ever judicial body.

The Shura Council, consisting of 45 members, has now been concluded. Thirty were elected, and 15 now appointed. Two hundred thirty-three candidates across 30 districts ran in which there was a high voter turnout (63.5%).

#UK: Former Politician, Journalist Martin Dsubney Named Dep. Leader Of Reclaim Party

Martin Daubney, 51, a former member of the European Parliament for the Brexit Party, and long time journalist, has become deputy leader of the UK's recently formed Reclaim Party.

The Anti-Lockdown Party Leader and founder Laurence Fox, a former actor, made the announcement online Monday.  

“I’m hugely honoured that @MartinDaubney has agreed to take the position of Deputy Leader of The Reclaim Party. I look forward to working with him and the rest of the team, to fight for your right to disagree. Freedom. Fairness. Common sense.” @LozzaFox 

This past spring, Fox ran for mayor of London under the party's banner.

#GREECE: New Gov't Wants To Replace Previous Leftist Gov't Appointment To Commission

The newly elected New Democracy Party government is due to pass a law providing for the dismissal of members and staff of the competition commission if they have recently served in government offices.

This  means that the current competition boss, Vassiliki Thanou, will have to be replaced.

Thanou, a former supreme court chief justice, was nominated by the previous leftist government and before that, she was a non-paid adviser of former premier Alexis Tsipras.

The opposition Syriza Party is accusing the government of interfering in the operation of the commission, which regulates business.

#AUSTRIA: First Woman Chancellor Inaugurated Following Ouster Of Kurz [world politics news]

Brigitte Bierlein was sworn in today to become. Austria's the first woman chancellor. Pres. Alexander Van der Bellen nominated Bierlein, a constitutional judge, to hold the job until new elections following the ouster of Sebastian Kurz, who lost a no confidence vote.
