Liz Truss has dramatically resigned as the UK's prime minister after just 45 days on the job, the shortest tenure of any British prime minister in history.
The PM said her successor will be elected in a leadership contest to be completed in the next week.
Conservative Party MPs urged Truss to go after her government was engulfed by political turmoil, following the ditching of most of her economic policies.
Truss was elected by the party's membership in September, but she lost all authority within her party after a series of policy u-turns.
