Gerrit Schotte, the leader of Movementu Futuro Kòrsou, the official opposition party in the Caribbean nation of Curacao, cannot continue to serve as a member of parliament from prison, the nation's supreme court has ruled. It means the next MP on the party's April, 2017 election list, Juniël Carolina, will become an MP in his place. Schotte, who was elected the nation's first prime minister when Curacao became a nation in 2010, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2017 for official bribery, forgery, and money laundering.
