The nation's constitution has been amended to effectively allow Pres. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow to remain in office for life, just as his predecessor did before dying in office in 2006. The amendment extended the presidential term by two years, from five to seven, but also removed the 70-year age limit to be an eligible candidate.
