#JAPAN: Upper House Lawmaker Onada Reveals Dual Citizenship; Will Renounce

Kimi Onoda, 34, a lawmaker from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, has admitted to having dual citizenship in Japan and the United States, which could have serious consequences for her, if legal action was taken, including removal from office. Onoda, elected to the Upper House for the first time in July, has apologized. She said she is undertaking procedures to renounce her U.S. citizenship. She was born to a U.S. father and a Japanese mother in the United States and has citizenship of both countries.
