A deepening rift has opened between Burma’s powerful military and Aung San Suu Kyi, sources say, threatening the democracy leader’s prospects for forming a successful government. Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy won elections last November, but the military remains are strong part of governing, taking a quarter of seats in parliament and barring her from becoming president.
