Every member state of the EU except Malta was sued on March 26 over failures to translate the EU’s Energy Efficiency Directive into national law. The European Commission referred Hungary to the European Court of Justice, seeking fines of €15,444 a day for not implementing the directive by a June 2014 deadline.
