#GERMANY: Gov't to Help Rescue Troubled Cruise Ship Builder

Germany's government will help rescue a major German shipyard that has solid orders for new cruise ships but has run into financial difficulty, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Thursday.

Meyer Werft employs more than 3,000 people in Papenburg on the Ems river in northwestern Germany, near the Dutch border. The company has built 58 cruise ships so far, according to its website.

#UK: New Prime Minister Vows Stability And Unity For UK And His Party

Rishi Sunak, who is the new UK prime minister, has issued a plea for unity in the face of a "profound economic challenge".

He won the Tory leadership contest after rival Penny Mordaunt failed to secure enough backing from MPs.

In his first speech, Sunak said bringing his party and the UK together would be his "utmost priority."

Sunak, 42, will be the UK's first British Asian prime minister and the youngest ,in more than 200 years.

#INDIA: Gov't Plans Commerce Dep't. Restructure

In order to achieve the government's goal of expanding exports to $2 trillion  a year by 2030, it has announced plans to restructure the commerce department.

"As part of the restructuring exercise, a dedicated trade promotion body would be set up to advise an overall strategy to achieve targets and make it future ready," said union minister Piyush Goyol.

#IRELAND: Trade Unions Ask President To Save 50 Jobs

Trade unions representing workers at Premier Periclase in Drogheda, Ireland have called on President Leo Varadkar to intervene to save more than 50 jobs following the decision by new owners to suspend operations at the plant over “spiralling energy costs”.

The company exited bankruptcy in May after a survival plan was approved by the nation's High Court.
