#THENETHERLANDS: Government Wants To Expand Right-To-Die Law To Everyone

The government plans to draft a new law that would allow people who consider their lives to be "completed" to get help to die "in a dignified way." The proposal was welcomed by the country's leading right-to-die organization but criticized by some opposition lawmakers and a group for the elderly. The proposal is the latest step in the development of the liberal Dutch mercy-killing law first adopted in 2002.

#CANADA: Liberal Assisted Death Proposal Upsets Backbenchers

Justin Trudeau is defending his government's restrictive approach to legalizing medical assistance in dying, arguing that it's a momentous change that needs to be implemented slowly and cautiously. The prime minister made the argument after some Liberal backbenchers expressed concern that the government's proposed new law does not comply with the charter of rights and falls short of what the Supreme Court ordered in last year's decision, striking down the ban on doctor-assisted death.

#UK: Parliament Rejects Doctor-Assisted Suicide Bill

Parliament has voted against legalising assisted suicide in England and Wales, by 330 to 118. The Private Member’s Bill from Labour MP Rob Marris was rejected resoundingly by the House of Commons late last week after several hours of debate.
