During the period when there was no government in Northern Ireland, the civil service altered its rule book to say that all workers must use whatever words transgender people want, or face disciplinary action – and possible dismissal.

A transgender campaign group and the Equality Commission spoke positively of the changes.

But former finance minister Mervyn Storey said there are religious people and people of no faith alike who “do not sit comfortably with all of this” – and criticised the fact it was put into force in the absence of a minister.

#JORDAN: Senate Pres. Fayez Rejects Idea Of Parliament Appointing Civil Servants

Senate President Faisal Fayez on Sunday affirmed his “absolute” rejection of giving the Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament the authority to appoint employees outside the scope of the Civil Service Bureau.

Fayez said that enhancing the values ​​of transparency, fairness, integrity and competitiveness on a government level requires giving the CSB the responsibility of appointing people to positions in the various ministries and governmental institutions according to “clear and transparent standards”.

#UK: Labour Party Strikes Back Over Concerns Over Party Leader Corbyn's Health, Mental Fitness

The Labour Party is hitting back hard against a London Times article highlighting concerns of unnamed civil servants that party Leader Jeremy Corbyn, 70, is "too frail" to be prime minister, and is "losing his memory," relying on others around him to make decisions.

A party spokesman struck back at the claims, saying, "Jeremy Corbyn leads an active life, running and cycling regularly, and is in good health. Reports to the contrary are scurrilous and a transparent attempt to undermine Labour's efforts to redistribute wealth and power from the few to the many." It's unclear whether the attack came from those in the civil service sympathetic to the Conservative Party, or whether it originated within the Labour Party's own ranks.

In June, 2016, Corbyn faced, and survived, a full-scale revolt against his leadership (and leadership style) when 11 members of his Shadow Cabinet resigned at once.

#EGYPT: Parliament Approves Civil Service Bill On Second Try

The House of Representatives have approved a new Civil Service Law, which it had previously rejected in February. Speaker Ali Abdul Aal announced the government-proposed bill will be sent to the State Council for review of its constitutionality. An earlier one failed to pass that process.
