#SOLOMONISLANDS: National Elections Delayed Until 2024 By Parliament

Solomon Islands politicians have voted to delay national elections until 2024, after the Pacific Games.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has argued that the country does not have the resources to stage both the Pacific Games and a general election in the same year - and Parliament has now agreed.

The country will be able to "proudly host the Pacific Games 2023 and carry out its electoral reforms" because of the legislation, Sogavare has claimed

#SOLOMONISLANDS: PM Survives No Confidence Vote After November Riots

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has survived a no confidence motion in parliament after accusing “agents of Taiwan” of orchestrating the bid to remove him.

The pro-China leader won the support of 32 legislators, while 15 voted against him.

#SOLOMONISLANDS: Cabinet Votes To Ban Facebook

The Cabinet of the Solomon Islands has agreed to ban Facebook, citing a need for stricter cybercrime legislation and regulation.

The Communications Minister, Peter Shanel Agovaka, confirmed the decision to the Solomon Times newspaper, saying public misuse of the platform was the main concern.

He said country was lacking legislation on internet usage and cybercrime which was particularly worrying when it came to what children were accessing and being exposed to.

#SOLOMONISLANDS: PM Sogovare Ousted In No Confidence Vote

Manasseh Sogavare has been ousted as the Solomon Islands' prime minister in a vote of no confidence.  Sogavare's third stint as prime minister was his longest, and he came tantalisingly close to that elusive goal in Solomon Island politics: a full term in office. However, 10 months before elections he was politically wounded by recent defections by almost half his cabinet, and narrowly defeated by 27 votes to 23.
