The Labour Party of Scotland's push for May's rapidly approaching elections in Scotland was thrown into chaos this week,  when the party's leader quit less than four months from polling day.

Voters are set to cast ballots May 6 to elect the 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament.

But Labour languishes in polls and the nationalists are set for another majority – reviving the divisive argument about independence.

Richard Leonard, who led Labour in Scotland for three years and was seen as close to former UK-wide Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn, was widely blamed for failing to reverse the party's fortunes in what was once its traditional stronghold.

#UK: Spain Pours Cold Water On Scotland's Plan For Separate Post-Brexit EU Deal

The Spanish government has poured cold water on Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s proposal for a separate deal for Scotland if the rest of the UK leaves the EU in a hard Brexit. Sturgeon has laid out a detailed 62-page blueprint on how Scotland might remain in the EU single market, even if the rest of the UK is completely outside of it, similar to the relationship Norway has with the EU. Spain is reportedly wary of setting a precedent for its own separatist Basque and Catalan regions.

#UK: Conservatives Make Big Gains In Scottish Assembly Election; Now #2 Pty

The Conservative Party is now the second largest party in the Scottish Assembly after last week's election saw them gain 16 seats to hold 31 in the regional parliament, behind the Scottish National Party, which holds 63, down 13 from the 2011 election. Labour lost 13 seats, holding just 24 after the result.
