Liz Truss, Penny Mordaunt Fight For Conservative Party Leadership

Backers of Foreign Secretary Liz Truss have attacked Tory leadership rival Penny Mordaunt, as they fight to stay in the race to succeed Boris Johnson.Former Brexit Minister Lord Frost said Mordaunt did not "master detail" and ex-party leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith questioned her level of experience. 

Mordaunt said rivals were trying to stop her as they did "not want to run against me" in a vote by Tory members.

She also promised she would "not engage" in negative campaigning.

Former Chancellor Rishi Sunak came first in Thursday's second round of voting by Conservative MPs for a new party leader and prime minister, with Mordaunt second and Truss third.

#UK: Ahead Of #Brexit, EU Is Already "Discriminating" Against UK Aid Agencies, Says UK Development Minister

The UK’s development minister has accused the European Commission of discriminating against UK aid agencies, in a move that could scupper future partnerships after the UK leaves the EU. Speaking at a hearing of the UK Parliament’s International Development committee, Penny Mordaunt said the Commission was deliberately ignoring an agreement allowing UK agencies to continue to access EU humanitarian aid funds while it negotiates a new post-Brexit deal.

#UK: Priti Patel Resigns As Int'l Development Min. Following Secret Meetings; Replaced By Penny Mordaunt

Penny Mordaunt has been appointed by Prime Minister Theresa May as the UK's new International Development Secretary. She replaces Priti Patel, who resigned Wednesday following revelations of secret meetings between her and Israeli politicians while she was on vacation last summer. Mordaunt, a Conservative MP for Portsmouth North, was first elected in 2010 and has served as minister for disabled people since July 2016. She was also the first woman to serve as a minister for the armed forces.
