#UK: Labour Party London Mayor Khan Re-Elected

[world politics news]

London's Labour Party Mayor Sadiq Khan has pledged to “build bridges” between City Hall and the national government after being re-elected as Mayor of London in a closer contest for England's capital city than many had predicted.

Despite opinion polls suggesting his Conservative rival Shaun Bailey would be a distant second in the race for City Hall, there was a late increase in support for the Tory candidate.

Khan's victory will provide a glimmer of hope to the Labour Party after it received a drubbing in local elections in England, losing control of a host of councils and a humiliating defeat in the Hartlepool by-election.

When first preference votes were counted, Khan had 1,013,721 votes, compared to Bailey with 893,051.

Green Party candidate Sian Berry took 197,976 first preference votes, while former actor Laurence Fox, who founded the Reclaim Party, received 47,634 votes.

#UK: Poll Shows London Mayor Handily Winning Re-election

[world politics news]

London Mayor Sadiq Khan is coasting towards a clear victory in the battle for re-election against Conservative challenger Shaun Bailey, an exclusive new poll shows today.

The sitting Labour mayor is ahead of his Conservative rival by 47% to 26% with a month to g in the campaign, the YouGov research for the Mile End Institute (MEI) revealed.

But two minor candidates have picked up support from standing starts.

Laurence Fox, the actor and activist running for mayor for the new Reclaim Party, has overtaken other minor candidates to notch up to 4% after just four weeks of campaigning.

Former Wall Street banker Brian Rose, whose social media videos and animated billboards have grabbed attention, is just behind him at 3%.

But the pair are lagging behind Green Party candidate Sian Berry, in third place with 9%, and Liberal Democrat Luisa Porritt, who comes in fourth at 7%.

#UK: Actor, Free Speech Activist Laurence Fox Enters London Mayoral Race

[world politics news]

Actor and Reclaim Party founder Laurence Fox will run against London Mayor Sadiq Khan to fight to reopen London and end the lockdown there.

Fox, an "anti-woke" free speech advocate, says has will also fight in the upcoming mayoral election on a platform of fighting “extreme political correctness” and woke culture.

Fox will advocate lifting lockdown restrictions as soon as May, instead of waiting for the June date set by the government.

The actor-turned-activist attacked the lockdown policies of both the Conservatives and Labour in his announcement.

He said he wants to "offer a voice to those who are being dominated into silence."
