#CANADA: O'Leary Cites Trudeau's Diverse Cabinet's Lack Of "Competence"

Conservative leadership hopeful Kevin O’Leary says the prime minister has ended up with a mediocre cabinet because he was more concerned about diversity than competence.

The Shark Tank star, who sought the Conservative Party leader spot in 2017, said he believes diversity and gender parity is important in government, but if elected, he would balance that diversity with competence.

“He has built up a caucus and a cabinet full of incompetent and mediocre leaders because he only listened to the siren call of diversity without even looking at competence.”

In his first cabinet of 30 ministers, Trudeau said he appointed an equal number of men and women “because it’s 2015.”

In an interview Monday, the TV star and businessman - who is leading in the polls to be the Tory's new leader - said he wants a "new form of federalism" that would prioritize federal targets, including tying equalization payments to specific priorities.

#CANADA: Conservative Party Uncovers 1,351 Invalid Membership Purchases

The Conservative Party of Canada has removed 1,351 names from its membership list after discovering they were purchased anonymously and inappropriately. The announcement from the party comes a day after reality TV star and Tory leadership candidate Kevin O'Leary alleged "widespread vote rigging" in the race to replace Stephen Harper as the next permanent leader of the Conservative Party.

TV star and candidate for Conservative Party Leader Kevin O'Leary refused to attack his 13 opponents during a Halifax debate this past weekend, saying he instead said he had gotten a "wonderful welcome," and thought there was "no need" to fight back against the many barbs sent his way.  The debate touched on corporate taxation, the economy, mandatory minimum sentencing and the carbon tax. O'Leary, a perceived front-runner, was criticized for the amount of time he spends in the U.S., for giving money to the Liberal party and for being a "celebrity" candidate.
