#TUNISIA: President Refuses To Set Election Date After Dissolving Parliament

Tunisia's president, Kais Saied, says he will not hold elections within three months after he dissolved parliament this week, the latest step in a march to one-man rule after brushing aside most of the democratic constitution.

Saied issued a decree on Wednesday dissolving parliament, which has been suspended since last year, after it defied him by voting online to repeal decrees that he used to assume near total power.

#TUNISIA: President Suspends Parliament, Seized Power In "Coup"

President Kais Saied said he would assume executive authority with the assistance of a new prime minister, in the biggest challenge yet to a 2014 democratic constitution that split powers between president, prime minister and parliament.

Crowds of people quickly flooded the capital's streets, cheering and honking car horns in scenes that recalled the 2011 revolution that brought democracy and triggered the Arab spring protests that convulsed the Middle East.

#TUNISIA: Independent Law Professor Wins Presidential Election

Independent law professor Kais Saied looked set to win Tunisia's presidential runoff, as exit polls forecast an overwhelming victory against his rival.

Polls carried in Tunisian media on Sunday projected that Saied would win with between 72 and 77% of the vote. His opponent Nabil Karoui, who was in jail for most of the campaign, was forecast to win between 23 and 27%.
