#TURKEY: Ruling Party Wins Comfortable Majority In Parliament

The ruling Justice and Development Party has won 316 seats in Sunday's election, a comfortable majority in the 550-seat parliament. The main opposition CHP won 25.2% and the nationalist MHP opposition took 12%. Support for the pro-Kurdish HDP hovered just over the 10% threshold needed to enter parliament.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan's former top adviser Aydın Ünal threatened Turkish critical media outlets on Tuesday, saying they will be brought to account after the Nov. 1st election. Ünal accused the critical media of hate crimes and discrimination while claiming that they will account for these crimes.

The government is working on legislation granting the prime minister or a member of Cabinet the power to ban a website for 24 hours without a court order when public order or national security are at stake. The bill was submitted by deputies of the ruling Justice and Development Party.
