#SERBIA: Ruling Party Says Poll Identifying Supporters As "Low Education" Voters Unfairly Labels Citizens As "Third-Grade Losers"

A large number of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party’s (SNS) voters are pensioners, poor and those with low education or with high school degrees, according to the poll conducted by Birodi. The results of the research have provoked harsh reactions by SNS officials, including its leader and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

The poll has also showed that those who vote for SNS regularly watch the television networks Pink and Happy, which are widely regarded as ruling party’s propaganda tools.

In his op-ed for Politika daily, Vucic said the poll is part of a campaign, “in which is Serbia is being insulted, degraded and its citizens labeled as third-grade losers." The head of SNS parliamentary group Aleksandar Martinovic (photo) has called on the prosecutor’s office to intervene, claiming that Birodi poll was “dangerous phenomena”

#SERBIA: Pres. Vucic Claims Failure Of Kosovo To Gain Entry Into INTERPOL As A "Victory"

Serbian Pres. Aleksandar Vučić says the rejection of Kosovo's INTERPOL membership application this month was a success of Serbia, “a small, defiant and proud country." He says he hopes the defeat leads Kosovo to return to negotiations on a compromise, ending years of animosity between the two regions.

After two rounds of voting, 68 member countries voted in favor of admitting Kosovo, 51 were against and 16 abstained, so that the former Serbian province failed to get the required two-thirds support of the member states. Kosovo broke away from Serbia in 1999, precipitating a civil war. In 2008, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia but Serbs don't recognize it, nor do five EU member states: Spain, Romania, Greece, Cyprus, and Slovakia.

#SERBIA: PM Vows To Smooth Tensions With Croatia After War Criminal Found Not Guilty, Plans Visit

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic pledged to visit Croatia to ease tensions that escalated between the two countries after the acquittal of hardline nationalist war crime defendant Vojislav Seselj. Croatia has been demanding that Serbia do more to prosecute crimes against its Croatian minority, and has vowed to obstruct Belgrade’s EU entry process if Serbia doesn't comply. Vucic dismisses these threats as "unreasonable blackmail," but says the two nations must work better together.

#SERBIA: Despite Apology, Defense Min. Fired After Making Sexist Remark To Reporter

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić fired Defense Mnister Bratislav Gašić after he made a sexist remark to a female journalist. Gašić sparked outrage after a journalist from B92 Television knelt down in front of him to avoid being in the way of cameras as he spoke to a group of reporters during a visit to a factory. Gašić remarked, "I like these female journalists who kneel down so easily."
