John Swinney will continue to serve as Scotland’s Education Secretary despite coming closer than any minister in Holyrood history to losing a vote of no confidence.
A motion accusing him of the “mismanagement” of the nation’s schools was defeated by only nine votes, after the Greens leant him their backing alongside the SNP.
