#BOUGAINVILLE: Pacific Nation Holds First Election

Bougainville, who voted for independence at the end of last year, will vote this month on a new parliament.

The vote is the first since the independence vote, and the winner will be able to negotiate the terms of the country’s independence.

What is significant about the election is that a record number of women are nominated, a total of 43. In the 2015 election, the number was 35.
