On the brink of the invasion of Mosul, Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi has received a no-confidence vote from parliament over corruption allegations and was removed by a vote of 142 to 102. Obeidi turned the accusation around, saying he had "tried everything to fight corruption," and accused parliament speaker Salim al-Jaburi and other government officials and businessmen of trying to persuade him to secure specific contracts or reinstate employees fired due to corruption.
