Rodrigo Duterte has berated Canada in a long-running dispute over waste exported to the Southeast Asia nation, the colorful leader threatening to physically sail it back to Canada. “For Canada’s garbage, I want a boat prepared,” Duterte told officials, saying he did not care if his stance on the issue turned the two countries into enemies.
Manila has filed several diplomatic protests with Canada over tons of waste shipped to the Philippines between 2013 and 2014. Canada has said the shipment was a commercial transaction and was not backed by its government.

Motorists will be banned from entering cities or face automatic fines if their cars do not meet strict clean air standards. New laws paving the way for four "low-emission zones" within the next two years were today introduced by Nicola Sturgeon's Scottish National Party in the Scottish Parliament. The new law could see nearly a million older petrol and diesel vehicles barred from parts of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee in a bid to improve public health.

The European Parliament has passed a new draft law on air pollution that the European Commission and several members of parliament argue is not enough to cut emissions to World Health Organization standards. The law seeks to cut in half the number of premature deaths caused by air pollution and targets many EU states already violating existing air pollution limits.
