#CANADA: British Columbia To Adopt "Inclusive" Language In Laws

British Columbia will become the first province in Canada to systematically amend provincial laws to remove "outdated gendered and binary language, better reflecting the diversity of the province and ensuring everyone can access provincial programs and services," according to a government press release.

Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, has introduced new modernizing legislation to correct outdated language by amending more than 2,300 instances of "outdated gendered and binary terms" from 21 ministries across 210 provincial statutes.

#GERMANY: Gov't Cracks Down On "Hate Speech" Against Politicians

In a coordinated action, German authorities are cracking down on online hate speech directed at politicians by conducting searches and interrogating more than 100 suspects across Germany, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) said.

The criminal offences were related to insults against nationally known politicians. Other "hate postings" contained misleading fake news and misquotes that “appear suitable for defaming and discrediting the people concerned,” the BKA noted. Two in three victims of online hate speech were female politicians.

#USA: San Francisco School District Wants Abraham Lincoln Name Removed - "Did Nothing" For Blacks

San Francisco may remove Abraham Lincoln’s name from a high school, because a district committee says the 16th president — who abolished slavery — did nothing to demonstrate that “black lives mattered to him.”

Lincoln is one of dozens of historical figures who the city school district’s renaming committee argued led lives so rife with racism, oppression or abuse that their names should not grace its buildings, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

#UK: Labour Party Member Wants To End Empire-Related Honors

Honors titles associated with the British Empire are "offensive and divisive" and should be rebranded, a senior Labour Party Member of Parliament has told the BBC.

Kate Green, who herself got an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005, admitted to the Political Thinking podcast it gave people "huge pleasure" to have their achievements recognized.

But the shadow education secretary said such honors were hierarchical and the link to Empire was "hurtful to people."

"You can't justify that branding," she told host Nick Robinson.

Conservative MPs have hit back at her comments, arguing changing the name of the honours system would be an 'act of cultural and historic vandalism' as they 'reflect this country's history and traditions.'

Among those who have received the OMB honors are The Beatles and scientist Stephen Hawking.
