#SLOVAKIA: PM Fico Says Slovkia Rejects New WHO Pandemic Treaty

A week ago, during an hour-long speech at the SMER party conference, of which he is chairman, Prime Minister Robert Fico said he will not support strengthening the powers of the World Health Organisation (“WHO”) at the expense of sovereign states in the fight against pandemics. “Only insane pharmaceutical companies could come up with such nonsense,” he told the more than 400 guests, ambassadors, delegates and party members.

Fico was appointed as Slovakia’s Prime Minister for the fourth time on October 25, 2023 after his SMER – Slovenská Sociálna Demokracia (“SMER”) Party won the election on September 1, and formed a coalition with the centre-left HLAS – Sociálna Demokracia (“HLAS”) and nationalist Slovenská Národná Strana (“SNS”) parties.

#CHINA: Health Officials Reject WHO Criticism Of COVID Investigation

Chinese health officials have defended their search for the source of the COVID-19 virus and lashed out at the World Health Organization after its leader said Beijing should have shared genetic information earlier.

The director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention's, Shen Hongbing, said the WHO comments were "offensive and disrespectful."

#FRANCE: Unanimous Senate Resolution Calls For Taiwan To Enter Int'l Orgs.: Beijing Denounces

A vote by the French Senate in favor of a resolution backing Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization (WHO) and three other major international organizations has triggered an angry response from China.  In response, Beijing is blocking Taiwan's entry, arguing it is not an independent state. 

The resolution, which passed by a vote of 304 to 0, with 19 abstentions, called for Taiwan to be admitted to the WHO, Interpol, and other international organizations.

But the Communist government in Beijing blocked the moves, asserting it's frequent claim that there is only one government of China, and its capital is in Beijing.
