#MALTA: MP Proposes Menstrual Cycle Leave Bill

Parliament should consider introducing menstrual cycle leave, Labour MP Roasianne Cutajar said. 

Speaking in Malta's parliament, the former parliamentary secretary for civil rights said that many women were unable to go to school or work because of period pains. 

Cutajar said she chose to raise the topic after speaking to a young woman from Qormi who lost her job because she had to miss work owing to pain.

#CYPRUS: Turkish Cyprus Elects Right-Wing Pro-Erdogan Party

A right-wing nationalist party has won the majority of Turkish Cypriot votes in snap legislative elections in the breakaway northern part of Cyprus, according to the final results released by the election commission.

The National Unity Party (UBP) of right-wing nationalist Ersin Tatar, a close ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, won 39.5 percent of the vote, strengthening its presence in the parliament of the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus by taking 24 out of 50 seats.

#UK: Spain Demands, And Gets, Assurances Over Separate Deal On Gibraltar As Final Brexit Summit Nears

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has given in to Spain's demands over the future of the British territory of Gibraltar after the Spanish prime minister threatened to “veto” the Brexit deal due to be signed off by EU leaders on Sunday. On the eve of Sunday’s Brexit summit, the British ambassador to the EU, Sir Tim Barrow, wrote to concede that Gibraltar would not necessarily be covered by a future trade deal with the EU.

The decision gives Spain a veto over Gibraltar benefiting from a future trade and security agreement between the EU and the British government. The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, said the UK would now have to open talks on “joint sovereignty” of Gibraltar, which Spain has claimed since the Francisco Franco era.

Egpyt's Pres. Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek PM Antonis Samaras met Nov. 8 in a summit to discuss greater economic cooperation, combating terrorism, #EU support for Egypt, crises in the region and Turkish-Cypriot relations. Stronger ties with the EU reportedly signal a strategy to counter US influence.
