#POLAND: Justice Minister Signals Pull-Out From Istanbul Convention Due To Gender Definition

Zbigniew Ziobro, Minister of Justice, announced that he will file a motion to the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy to take formal steps in order to denounce the Istanbul Convention.

Ziobro said that there are provisions in the convention that are of an ideological nature which Poland does not accept and considers harmful. In this context, the Minister of Justice spoke about, among others, the construction of the so-called socio-cultural gender in opposition to biological sex.

#SLOVAKIA: Parliament Votes Down Istanbul Convention On Violence Against Women

Shortly before Feb. 29 general elections, the Slovak parliament rejected the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women by a crushing majority of votes, with many expressing concern that the document promoted a left-wing ideology at odds with Slovak society.

Slovak politicians indicated that several provisions of the convention clashed with Slovakia's constitution, particularly regarding the definition of marriage between a man and a woman, and concerns that the document was promoting "gender ideology".
