The Canadian federal government recently announced some ambitious plans when it comes to immigration in Canada, although not everyone appears to be happy about the news.
According to the government's 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada wants to welcome over 1 million new permanent residents over the next three years.
But Quebec Premier François Legault maintains that the province cannot take in more than 50,000 immigrants annually. Part of the problem is the supremacy of the French language in the province, which Quebec seeks to preserve at all costs. Legault and others feel that immigrants would dilute French speakers.
